Softening system
The water softening system reduces the hardness of water by removing the alkaline earth cations Ca2+ and Mg2+ that are dissolved in the water. Water softening transforms ‘hard’ water into ‘soft’ water, which may still contain dissolved alkali cations and chloride anions.
